Decalcification of a Heavily Calcified Common Femoral Artery and its Bifurcation with a Cavitron Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator
INTRODUCTION Surgical endarterectomy is the preferred method for treating occlusive disease of the common femoral artery (CFA). However, endarterectomy is not always straightforward in cases with heavily calcified plaque. To overcome this limitation, a new method for decalcification, which utilizes a Cavitron ultrasonic surgical aspirator (CUSA) has been developed. REPORT The method involves ...
متن کاملHistological appearances of intracranial biopsies obtained using the Cavitron ultrasonic surgical aspirator.
The Cavitron ultrasonic surgical aspirator causes localised ultrasonic tissue fragmentation and has recently been used to remove intracranial tumours. We have examined tissue fragments from 17 operations in which the apparatus was used: in all cases a definitive diagnosis could be made from the material aspirated. This finding has not been previously described.
متن کاملCavitron Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator in Laparoscopic Nerve-Sparing Radical Hysterectomy: A Pilot Study.
OBJECTIVE Pelvic autonomic nerve preservation during radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer has become a priority in recent years. This pilot study was undertaken to evaluate laparoscopic nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy (L-NSRH) using the Cavitron Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator (CUSA) in women with cervical cancer. METHODS Patients with stage IB1 or IIA1 cervical cancer underwent L-NSRH w...
متن کاملMultiple cerebral infarction and paradoxical air embolism during hepatectomy using the Cavitron Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator -A case report-
A venous air embolism and paradoxical air embolism (PAE) are serious complications in patients undergoing a hepatectomy. We report a case of PAE and cerebral infarctions in a patient undergoing a hepatic resection using a Cavitron Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator (CUSA®). A 65-year-old woman underwent a left lobe hepatectomy. During the middle phase of the liver resection with CUSA®, there was a s...
متن کاملUltrasonic decalcification of calcified cardiac valves and annuli.
Heavily calcified annuli increase the incidence of complications after prosthetic valve replacement-heart block, separation of the aorta or the atrium from the ventricle, late aneurysm formation, paravalvular leak, and haemolysis. An ultrasonic calculus-disintegrator has been developed to remove calcific deposits. The instrument is portable, robust, easily sterilized, inexpensive, and provides ...
